You Said We Did Dashboard

My idea is to demonstrate and provide feedback to people of how engagement has led to specific and understandable changes and actions. This dashboard will provide an open data source analysis of borough engagement and consultation excercises and link to specific impacts, measures and outcomes including policy updates, changes, community initiatives and projects.

Why the contribution is important

Engagement is critical for communities to reclaim ownership of policy and action in their local areas. Too many people feel disempowered from influencing their own lives and therefore do not engage. This idea is important as it reconnects outcomes with actions and inputs and will help create better enagegment levels and greater agency.

    Yes, letting people understand how feedback has effected change is a great way to drive engagement. There's often an impression across the community that a "consultation" means a council or other government body has already decided what they're going to do and are just going through the motions. So emphasising places where the outcome was different than the original suggestion would be really useful too.

    Thank you both, I completely agree that feedback - 'closing the loop' - is really important. Our consultation hub does have a You said/We did function https://consultations.southwark.gov.uk/we_asked_you_said/ - but it turns out it's one of the hardest things to get right. Lots of the projects we consult on have really long development times between the consultation and something actually being decided/changed - I think it can be hard to know when is the best time in that process (can be a couple of years) to feed back.

    We need to get better at this - any suggestions?

    STAR is a useful acronym here: Situation; Task; Action; Results. It would be good to publish the results and outcomes of decisions that have been taken
